A child's prayer

Don't ever let your children pray for the opportunity to build a snowman in April.  I'm certain that is exactly how we came to have about 6 inches of snow after a gorgeous 70 degree day before.

On Saturday (the 2nd of April and General Conference weekend), Scarlett looked at me after coming in from playing outside and said, "Mom!  We never got to build a snow man!"  So I said that she would just have to ask Heavenly Father for some snow so we can build one.  The very next morning, I awoke to this:

You can imagine that Scarlett was thrilled!  I was not.  I could only hope that it would melt quickly!  Although, it was pretty out there.  Scarlett immediately was begging Dad to go out and help her build a snowman.

Dad builds the snowmen in this family, so I took pictures from the window in the kitchen. 

 

How can you say no to this little face?  I couldn't, so I dug out some stuff to put a face on her snowmen.

Apparently it wasn't great packing snow, so they built 2 little snowmen.

The snowmen were so melted by lunch time that they had tipped over.  That's my kind of snow day.  ;)

Conference was especially good this time around.  It was one of those times when I really felt like every talk was meant just for me.  If you'd like to read more, click here.  We were also lucky to be able to spend the weekend with Steve's mom, Brenda.  She was in town and we had a great time with her!  The kids keep asking if she still lives in Hawaii.  :)

I wish I could say that this was the last of the snow in April.  :/  Maybe May will be better?

Over-run with Snow

We've had two pretty good size snow storms in the last couple of weeks... bringing a couple feet of snow... and a few smaller snow storms prior to that. It's been pretty outside and was a perfectly white Christmas.

My poor, deprived kids had not been out in the snow at all this year... mostly because it meant me searching for snow pants for each one and knowing that I probably was short a pair for Scarlett. So, after spending a morning searching for them... I found that I was indeed short snow pants for Scarlett. Thanks to Dad though, she had some by the time she woke up from her nap on Thursday and we were ready to play.

It was about 5pm when the kids got outside to play... the reason for the darkish pictures.

Kanyon and Scarlett were pros in the snow (until it got on Scarlett's face - she doesn't handle that so well). She is the little girl dressed as a boy in the photo below. ;) She opted to borrow Kanyon's old winter coat because hers was too hard to pull over her gloves.

This was Cohen's first "real" snow experience. (aside from the one time on the sled with Steve on New Year's day last year... he was far too young to be a fan. Come to think of it... I never blogged those pictures. Maybe I'll have to do that, albeit a year late exactly.)

He has been the best kid in the snow for the first time by far. Dressed like a marshmallow, he walked around like a pro. Pretty sure Kanyon sat and cried his first time in the snow.

He even attempted and succeeded in climbing up a snow bank within the first 5 minutes.

The kids really wanted to build a snowman, but Steve claimed it wasn't the packing kind of snow. I think he just didn't want to do it right then. ;) Oh well, it just means he's got to get back out there on another day to do it with them.

If it has to be this cold outside... then there had better be snow to play in or at least make it look pretty out there. The cold weather starts to get old fast, in my opinion, after Christmas is over.

Bring on the Spring!! :)

Lots of Snow!

We spent New Years Eve morning outside shoveling all the snow we had been getting. This was the kids' first trip out in the snow this year all bundled up and ready to play. We've gotten lots of snow prior to this, but it was never a weekend where I had Steve's help to get them all ready. Cohen is at a bad age for this and while he'd want to get down and crawl in it... he'd quickly decide it's not all that he hoped for. ;) So, he was napping.

Kanyon wanted to help Dad "work" more than anything else. It was cute. Scarlett tried, but she mostly just had issues with her gloves.

Random

Just a mix of pictures to show what we've been doing over the last couple of weeks.
All decorated for Christmas...
Our elf, Freddy, has been watching the kids and taking notes for Santa. Each night he disappears to report to Santa and comes back home in the morning in a different spot. The kids think it's fun when they find him.
Lots of this kind of weather over the last week. I need to get the kids bundled up and let them play in it. We've been so busy, there's not been time! Soon, I hope.
Baking and cooking treats. I have taken a break though because I cannot have it in my house!

Making neighbor gifts and getting them delivered.

I caught Scarlett the other day in her usual attire. A purse and princess shoes... clacking around the house. She can even run in them! Kind of amazing. ;)
And then in a matter of minutes, she had a different purse carrying her things around. Like Mother, like Daughter. :)
I took pictures of Scarlett after we got her ready the other day. She is slowing getting more and more hair... but lately it's been hard to keep her hair done! It is SO full of static all the time that even if I do it, it ends up flat and static to her head. I heard it's the dry air? I'm not sure what to do! I don't have any dryer sheets around the house because my dryer doesn't take them, but would it be worth it to buy some and rub it on her hair?
It's pretty cute when I can actually round brush it... and it stays. :)
We are ready for Christmas now. Like I said before, my Christmas shopping is complete... if only the never ending wrapping would stop now. I'm working on getting our Christmas cards out too. So, if you want one and don't think I have your address... let me know!

Sledding this morning!

After our last time in the canyon during a storm, I figured we wouldn't be going again anytime soon... but the kids and I had Jen to show us a really fun hill this morning. We met up with Christie and Addilyn (sp?) there too. The kids had a ball! Kanyon was so brave this time and even went down this giant hill all by himself. He and Paityn were hilarious together and caught a good foot of air on one trip down. Too bad Scarlett has had this cold and was kind of a bum in the cold weather, but it was worth going just to hear the giggling from the other kids as they went down. I'm actually looking forward to another trip to that hill! :)

Christie and Presley in the back and then Kanyon, Addilyn, and Paityn on the sled. We had a crash on the sled with these 3 once and I think they preferred the tubes after that. :)
Scarlett had her fun doing other things. ;)
I tried to catch them going down, but this run they didn't really get air like before.


It was hard to get the older 2 to want to be done! We'll have to bring the Dads next time... they would have loved seeing Jen run down Kanyon and Paityn at the bottom of the hill like bowling pins on her turn! :)
