Batman Birthday Party

We had Kanyon's friend party this weekend for his 4th birthday. He actually turns 4 on Wednesday, the 22nd, and is really disappointed that he is "still 3" even after his party. ;)

Here is the invitation I made for it.

We invited 13 kids and everyone showed up, so it was really fun! I kept things much simpler this year... no food - just cake and ice cream. That helped a lot. It was SO hot outside, so we stayed indoors for the most part.

Here was the spread... the pinata in the back (one activity we had to do outside), the batman head cakepops, and his batman symbol cake. You can also see the bags with names on them for each of the kids that came. There was a cape and mask in there that I made and the kids wore for the party. They were all SO cute in them, but I made the mistake of not getting a photo of them all dressed right at the start and by the end, lots of kids had shed the mask at least because it was pretty hot.
Kanyon requested a batman cake this year... and then proceeded to tell me how to do his head and body, etc. I think he was expecting me to channel "Ace of Cakes" and make a standing batman figure as a cake. HA! Right. So, he got this plain old batman symbol cake, which he ended up really liking...
...and these little batman head cake pops that he just adored. I got the basic idea from Bakerella. She's amazing, by the way... I'm sure she could have made these batmans look lots cleaner. ;) There was lemon cake in side and twizzler nibs cut on the diagonal for the ears... then dipped in candy melts by Wilton. They were pretty yummy!
I printed 3 of Kanyon's photos from our batman session and put them on display (mounted 11x14s). Kanyon has asked me every couple of hours since the party when I'm going to put them in his room. Guess I had better get on that. He's pretty excited to have them hanging in his wall. ;)
Here are the kids doing the pinata in the deathly hot backyard. It was a pull string pinata... really nice for little kids that aren't strong enough to break open the pinata with a bat anyway. :) You can see a few of the kids with the cape and masks on that I made. They were all so darling in them! They had just been sent on a scavenger hunt all over the place to find Joker. They were cute running around trying to find the clues. Kanyon totally got into it.
Making a wish!
My sister-in-law, Alex, finishing off her cake pop and holding my incredibly tired little man slumped there in her arms. :) I rescued him and laid him down just seconds after that shot.
Getting ready to open presents...
And Batman arrived! Kanyon was pretty excited that Batman would come to HIS birthday party...
Here's Batman and the kids that weren't afraid of him. haha! Well, I guess you can see that Scarlett was forced into the photo against her will. ;)
Thanks, Uncle James... you sure made Kanyon feel special! :) He asked me later, after Batman left, how he went... I asked him if he saw his Batmobile outside and his eyes got real big. haha! I adore this age.

The party isn't over... we're going to do the family party on his real birthday this week so there are more pictures to come! Thanks to everyone that came and made his party special!
