A little garden

We had a few gorgeous days in a row last week and Saturday was perfect to put the garden in.  I bought a planter box last year but it took forever for it to arrive, so I missed my chance to plant a garden.  It was probably a blessing in disguise because I was so overwhelmed with my small kids and being hugely pregnant that I'm certain I would have let it just die.  ;)  I have hope that this summer will be much less miserable for me and the garden will be something we enjoy instead of just being a chore.

The kids helped and feel pretty proud of it.  It's not very big (4' by 8'), but it's a good enough size to see what we'll want to do for next year.  Kanyon shows it to anyone that will pay attention to him.  So, beware.  Don't come over if you don't want him to drag you out in the backyard and show it to you!

If they are this excited about it now, I can't imagine what will happen once we have little tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, bell peppers, etc to show for it.  Maybe I can get them to eat tomatoes this way. That is if I can keep Cohen from pulling my plants out!  There has already been a casualty or two, so we'll see.  Honestly, I can't even tell you which plant is which (besides the tomatoes) because Cohen pulled all the little labels out of them before I had a chance to figure it out.  I guess we'll have to see once things start growing a bit more!  Like I have said before, Cohen always makes life interesting.  ;)

The rest of the day was spent out in the yard working and playing.
My friend, Kaylee, pointed out this flower to me that evening... it was growing out of a crack at the end of my driveway.

It's cute, right?  One of those "against all odds" kind of things.  I had to take a picture of it before my kids ran it over with their bikes!

It's crazy to me that the kids only have 2 more weeks of school and then summer will officially begin... I'm not sure if I'm ready!  I'm going to have to have plans and fun activities to keep everyone happy!

It felt like Spring...

IMG_0853edit sm WM
...but just for a minute because yesterday morning we had another 5 inches or so of snow on the ground. (Thankfully it was fully melted by the afternoon, but that doesn't mean that there weren't more snow flurries throughout the day! :/)  The picture above is Kanyon's bird feeder he made in preschool.  The birds have really enjoyed it.

Cohen likes playing out in the backyard. Especially in the wheelbarrow full of mud/water. Yay. Here he was after a few minutes outside unsupervised. :P

We had to hose him down and get him right in the bath. Steve has now been given the assignment of getting rid of that mess in the wheelbarrow. ;)

Kanyon and Scarlett...

They are such good little buddies. They play so well together that I don't really get hounded every day by them asking for a friend to play.  Don't get me wrong... they definitely have their moments with each other... but I really love that about having my kids so close in age.  Lately too Steve and I have been noticing that Scarlett and Cohen will play together so well.  The age gap is beginning to lessen with those two now that Cohen is getting older.  It makes me excited for them and for the relationship that Cohen and Kelan are sure to have for only being 15 months apart.

Spring is in the air

We've had such a weird Spring with snow one day and sun the next... so we've fully taken advantage of the good weather when we could!

Kanyon and Scarlett have enjoyed playing in the newly resurrected sand and water table. That is until a wasp or 20 come hanging around. One of the only things I hate about Utah summers. Bees and wasps are horrible and we have to have someone come a couple times in the summer just to knock the nests down from the eves of our house. Ick.

I love the short period of time when the trees are blossoming. It just doesn't last long enough though for how gorgeous it is outside... Although I'll take the green leaves on the trees over the dead bare look of winter anytime! ;)

I hope it's here to stay now! :)

New Helmets

Back in early April, we finally got the kids some helmets to ride on the back of the 4-wheeler with Steve. I haven't let him even take them around the block until they got them and they had been begging, so it was an exciting day for all 3 of them. (Steve was probably the most excited. haha!) Cohen isn't a fan of the 4-wheeler... I think it's too loud for his comfort level. I'm fine with that because they don't make these kind of helmets smaller than what Kanyon and Scarlett have.

And just a random picture from the morning of that same day...
Kanyon lately has been taking real pride in setting up all his action figures on either his batcave (like below) or his rocket ship. He works so long on it and I love how proud he is of himself.

Sunday Evening...

Gotta love a good Sunday evening in the Spring... Yes, the foot of snow we received last week has melted and you wouldn't even know it had hit us. Thank goodness the blossoms on the trees were still intact after all that. I had to snap a couple of pictures when we were outside this evening just in case this crazy weather decides to change once again and I miss it. ;)

The kids enjoyed the backyard after we took a walk/bike ride through the neighborhood park. I walked and pushed Scarlett in the stroller and Steve and Kanyon rode their bikes. I think every person in the neighborhood was out and about this evening...

Later in the backyard... Kanyon was watching this small plane fly over us about 5 different times. He picked his "outfit". He calls it his comfy clothes and insists on changing into something similar every Sunday after church. Probably because he sees Steve and I do the same. ;)
Scarlett's favorite pastime.

Steve's been working hard on the yard too over the weekend. It needs some TLC. Now that it should be good weather to enjoy it, maybe we'll give it the attention it so desperately needs... or Steve will and I'll pull up a chair and watch like I did on Saturday. ;)

Bubbles and Bike Riding

I know, I'm a marathon blogger today.

I just want to be caught up and I'm feeling more motivated to take pictures because of the Spring changes going on outside. The trees are blooming, the mountains are turning greener (at least where there still isn't snow), and it was just plain nice out today. Not too hot, not too cold. A good day for bubbles and bike riding, so we did just that after naps this afternoon.

A shot for Auntie Alex of the shoes she and my brother Trevor gave Scarlett for her birthday. She loves them and they fit perfectly! Thank you!!:)

The bubble part didn't last long because Kanyon was so anxious to test out his new bike that he got for Easter. He was nervous at first and didn't understand why he couldn't pedal backwards like on his tricycle (which Scarlett is now learning how to pedal)... but he caught on quick and seriously was a pro in no time at all. I couldn't help but wonder where the time went as I watched him race around our sidewalks and driveway leaving skid marks where ever he stopped. I don't know that those training wheels will be on for long.

Kanyon insisted on riding all the way through the park on his new ride, so we stopped for Scarlett to see the horses in the field next to it. She was a little disappointed at how far away they were today. But, it didn't stop her from climbing out and staring through the fence for a few minutes. She and her new baby doll from Grandma Jill, of course. This baby has been everywhere already today... swim lessons, the doctor... she just couldn't be forgotten for a walk to the park and even went on the swings with Scarlett.

And just a snapshot on our way back home through the park... I had to tell Kanyon to slow down because he was leaving us in the dust. It didn't help that at that point Scarlett insisted on pulling her baby in the wagon with zero help from me. ;) That's okay... I can only waddle so fast at a ripe 37 weeks pregnant.
There had better be many more days like today in the near future because it's about time for Spring to be here to stay!!

Gorgeous Weather

It was low 70's today and absolutely beautiful. The kids and I took advantage this afternoon after their naps. They love "riding bikes" outside. Kanyon really needs a real bike these days. He's just too big for his tricycle anymore... maybe the Easter Bunny will be kind because it's a rather long wait for his birthday at the end of July. ;)

It's so refreshing to have windows open in the house again...

We've got rain.
It must be spring after all.

Tree Blossoms

(day 113)

Sorry, an overload of flower pictures lately... this was on my tree in my backyard.

I'm just so glad it's not piles of snow that I'm still taking pictures of. ;)

Tulip Festival!

At Thanksgiving Point...
Although, we were informed at the gate that only 25% of the tulips are up right now... (this darn late Spring!) so I may have to go back again when more are in bloom. There was still a lot to see and the kiddos enjoyed the walk as well as the concert going on. :)

I enjoyed a few sun flare shots... can't shoot at this time of day without it! ;)

A cute location... I'm imagining a little girl in a white summer dress in the background there reaching to get out that door, smelling flowers, or picking them. :)
If we do get back here, maybe I'll put Scarlett in a white dress. :) She won't do what I saw in my head, but it's worth a shot!

Coloring Eggs!

(day 82)

We colored eggs this morning for Easter with the Bird's. So fun to have them home for a weekend! :)

The kids colored with crayons and put on stickers and rubberbands... and then dyed them!

Kanyon's finished product! Scarlett's eggs are the pokadot one and the orange one with the yellow S. All the rest are Kanyon's and he's really excited about them. He doesn't want to keep them in the fridge. haha

Thanks guys for coming over!! :)
