A Random Act of Kindness

The the craziest thing happened over the weekend. We were out to dinner with the Bird's at Guru's in Provo after a fun afternoon of swimming. The kids were being their usual chaotic but fun little selves. At one point, I noticed a lady a couple tables over kind of glancing our way a couple of times and I was like, "uh-oh... I hope the kids aren't bothering her or being too loud" and I tried to quiet them down, etc. We were finishing up and this same lady walks over to our table and proceeds to gush and compliment our two families about what cute young mom's Jen and I were and how darling our children were and how handsome our husbands were... I believe at one point the word "models" was mentioned and I wasn't sure she was for real since we were all in our still wet swim suits, damp hair, no makeup, etc. ;)

She took a great interest in our husbands and asked specifically what they did, etc. She said she was retired and just enjoying her life now, but at some point had a contract with the Chicken Soup for the Soul books. That's about all we learned about her. She was really nice, but it was kind of strange how interested in us she was. She said she tried to buy our dinners but was too late. How nice, right? Anyway, she leaves and we looked around at each other like, wow! Nice, but kind of a strange thing!

The next thing we know, she's back in and asking if the guys have business cards on them... neither one did so instead she asked if they would write their names down for her. (We're still not sure what that's about... maybe we'll find out later on.) Then she goes, "I just really wanted to do something for you... oh I know what I'll do..." and she pulls out this $100 bill and hands it to me and says for Jen and I to spend it on something for ourselves. I think my mouth just dropped open as I held it up for Jen to see it. We weren't sure what to do, but just say thank you!

We joked once she left that we'd find out later that she put us in her Will or something like that. :) I have never experienced something like that before... but Jen and I have always talked about how when we get older and our children are grown, we want to be the ones complimenting and reminding young moms that they are doing a great job because we know it makes a huge difference in their day and really means so much at the time when you wonder if you're doing it all right.

Jen and I went out this evening to spend our $100 and had a blast... When Jen puts on her super cute skinny jeans and I spray on my new perfume, we will most definitely remember her. :)

So, thank you to our mystery lady... you certainly left a lasting impression on us!
