(day 283)
Yep, Kanyon was back in the ER again last night. I have to say I'm pretty baffled about what exactly got us there. He's been pretty healthy, minus the bout with Strep a couple weeks ago... He hasn't been coughing, no runny nose, no fevers, nothing. He was even up later than normal running around with me while I took the Hanchett's family pictures last night. We put him to bed after 8 sometime and he was a healthy little kid!
At about 10:30pm I heard a couple coughs... they sounded kind of croupy and I was like, "what??". I went in to check on him and he's sitting up in bed panicking because he can't get a breath. It was awful... in all my dealings with him and his asthma, I've never seen him this way. I was thinking I would have to call 911, but decided to try his albuterol inhaler first. After a few tries, Steve and I got him to take it but he was still struggling so much he was throwing up. We strapped him in the car and I headed to the emergency room about 15-20 minutes away.
It was not busy, thank goodness and we got right in and got him a breathing treatment and some oral steroids. He was SO much better after just that, but the doctors think he has the croup. I'm confused... my kids have had the croup before, so I'm not new to it but when does the croup set on with no runny nose, no cough, no fever? The doctor even asked him to try and cough and he couldn't very well. I just think it's strange to set on that fast... and he still has no other symptoms like that today.
We're just glad we got him in and he's fine, although I think I'm going to go gray prematurely because of this kid and his breathing issues. After a couple hours at the ER last night, I need a nap and something to relieve the stress!

Oh geeze...that's so scary.
James had croup one time that came on just as quickly and intensely. So yeah, it's confusing but it's happened to us too.
I hope he feels better soon. And you too!!!!
poor guy! breathing issues are scary. my nephew has asthma and whenever he gets sick it goes straight to his breathing.
i hope he feels better soon!
oh wow! I'm so glad to hear that he is ok. What a trooper. He is so cute! Good luck!
That's such a sad story! It still baffles me how that happened! I hope you have a better night tonight!
Gosh poor Kanyon! That would be so scary to not be able to breath!! Do the doctors think he might ever grow out of it?
How scarey! Glad everything is okay.
That is so scary! I hope he is doing better now.
Oh my goodness! How scary. I'm glad you were able to get him in so quickly.
That must have been so scary! Poor little man, and poor Mommy and Daddy.
